Money and tax
Rent from your Chennai property is generally taxable in India, and the tenant is generally required to deduct TDS. If you are a US tax resident, the US generally taxes worldwide income too, and the India–US tax treaty may help avoid being taxed twice. US reporting rules may also apply to your Indian bank accounts. Canada has a tax treaty with India as well. Your Indian CA and your US or Canadian tax adviser should confirm what applies to you.

When can we talk, given the time difference?
Most US-based owners use WhatsApp for day-to-day updates and book calls on their weekend morning, which is evening in Chennai. We also arrange calls in your evening when needed.
Can you manage my Chennai flat without me giving a Power of Attorney?
Day-to-day management runs under our service agreement. Some legal steps, such as signing registered documents, may need a Power of Attorney or your presence. We coordinate with lawyers when that comes up.
How does the rent reach me in the US?
Rent is usually paid into your NRO account in India. Moving money abroad from an NRO account involves bank paperwork and a CA's certification; we coordinate with a Chartered Accountant for this.
Do I have to pay tax in India on the rent?
Generally, yes. Rent from Indian property is taxable in India, the tenant usually deducts TDS, and you may need to file an Indian return. A CA can confirm your position.
