How to Manage Your Chennai Property From the USA

Owning a home in Chennai while living in the US is manageable once a few basics are in place:

  1. Appoint one trusted local manager as your single point of contact.
  2. Verify every tenant and keep a written, registered rent agreement.
  3. Have rent paid into the right Indian account and track it monthly.
  4. Schedule inspections and video walkthroughs so you see the property regularly.
  5. Put property tax, water, electricity and association dues on a calendar.
  6. Agree an approval limit for repairs so nothing major happens without you.

Banking, tax and repatriation rules depend on your situation. Confirm them with a qualified CA.
